Individual Registration Updates

Institutions that have received new teams or adjudicators are asked to enter their personal details here. Individuals can also alter details using the same form however the closer to the tournament we reach unfortunately the less likely we are to be able to accommodate special requests.


Update on Chief Adjudicators

In an unfortunate turn of events, due to her demanding work schedule in Korea, co-CA Gemma Buckley will no longer be physically in attendance at this year’s Easters. Gemma will continue to be heavily involved in the topic selection, adjudicator allocations, and other CA duties involved with Easters through the wonders of the internet and Skype. Meanwhile, the tournament remains in the capable hands of co-CA James Beavis and broader adjudication core.

Team/Adjudicator Allocations

We continue to have huge demand for additional teams and adjudicators which is very exiting. We will offer team/adj spots to institutions in order of registration as as they become available. To assist us in this process we ask that institutions that find themselves with more spots than they can fill return them to us as soon as possible. You can view current team allocations here.

Do keep in mind when accepting additional places you must still meet n-1 and AA requirements. Please note that FastRego may not be updated in real time, refer to your emails for the most current allocation of teams. Payment must be received within 7 days of the additional places being offered.


The tournament is split across two hotels in the CBD this year. Institutions may indicate their preference for either hotel and we shall try our best to accommodate each request. Information on the hotels may be found here.
We’ve received requests from institutions who have participants interested in staying in the accommodation before and/or after the tournament.

Participants wishing to stay additional nights at the accommodation may do so at the Victoria Hotel only at $55 person pn. If your institution is staying at the Mantra you can book additional nights at the Victoria hotel, unfortunately you will have to transfer to the Mantra for the duration of the tournament, we apologise for the inconvenience. To book additional nights, please indicate this on the Participant Registration pack and we will be in touch with further details.

With 23 institutions registering for teams we’re extremely excited to be hosting what is shaping up to be one of the largest Easters ever. An email went out to institutional reps on Sunday March 9th evening with their initial allocation of spots, please get in touch if you haven’t heard from us. A reminder that the first deposit will be due Friday March 14th to hold your teams.

Registration Closes Friday

Registration is now open until Friday March 7th at 5pm (AEST). Institutions may register using FastRego and are directed to the Registration page to see the full timeline for registration along with information on payment and team policies. We anticipate registration will fill extremely quickly (as it has in previous years) therefore registering as close to the opening time as possible is highly recommended.

Should you experience problems with the registration process you can contact us, from 8:30am, on (03) 9905 1509. Please note we cannot register your institution over the phone, only provide assistance with the online system.

If you wish to be considered for an independent adjudicator (not affiliated with an institution) you may contact MAD for further information.

Registration Timeline Announced

Institutions are invited to visit the Registration page to see the full timeline for registration along with information on payment and team policies. We remind institutions that we anticipate registration will fill extremely quickly as it has in previous years. Pre-Registering your institution’s details on FastRego ahead of time and being prepared to register at 9am (AEST) on March 3rd will give you the best chance of securing the maximum number of teams for your institution. New institutions are encouraged to contact MAD for further information.

Institutions are also gently reminded that they must contact MAD well ahead of a financial deadline should they wish to apply for an extension.



Welcome to the Australian Intervarsity Debating Championships 2014 webpage! Affectionately referred to as Easters, this annual event is the largest university debating tournament in the country, bringing together debaters of all calibres, from each state and territory to come together for a week of high-level competition.

This year, Monash University’s debating society – the Monash Association of Debaters is proud to host this prestigious event between the 22nd and 24th of April 2014. Co-convened by Nisha Dutta and Matthew Guy, Easters 2014 promises to be a well-organised tournament that will be both enjoyable and memorable. With Chief Adjudicators Gemma Buckley and James Beavis heading the judging core, Easters will endeavour to maintain a high standard of competition throughout.
